French Navy

Sometimes a simple line in a book can take you in a quite unexpected direction.

This was the line, from the wonderful When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winans:

“The plane tree was still bare; a system of nerves and veins stretching out into the blue back sky. French navy, my mum called it, a French navy sky. She turned the radio on …”

Elly’s mum’s played Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters, but the radio in my head started playing French Navy by Camera Obscura …

… it’s lucky I love the song because I’m having difficulty switching it off!
