You may have spotted it already but, just in case you haven’t, let me tell you that the new issue of Shiny New Books is here!
There is a wonderfully rich and diverse array of bookish reading; hours of wonderful entertainment for anyone with an interest in books of pretty much any kind.
I’ve only scratched the surface, but I’ve already added books to my wishlist and pushed others up my list of reading priorities.
Somewhere in there you’ll find my list of books to transport you to Cornwall.
I can warmly recommend each and every one, and I can recommend many more. There were books that are out of print – but easy to obtain, there were books that had to be set aside so that the list could be diverse as possible, and there are books that are so well known that they recommend themselves and don’t need me.

But now it’s time to move on and write about some of the books that I’ve read but not written about.

I’m very pleased to see the Charlotte Mew biog in that list – I never expected it to be so good, and so captivating!
What a great array of books I’m especially pleased to see Rebecca on the list which is one of those books that I reread frequently.
That’s a very interesting set of books for Cornwall. Rebecca is also a personal favourite of mine.
Shiny New Books is a dangerous thing for wishlists!! And I’m glad the Margaret Kennedy reading week is on – I shall try very hard to join in!
I need to read Anna Karenina still, but I’ve read The Signature of All Things. What did you think of it?
Oh, and exciting about Margaret Kennedy week! I started Red Sky at Morning ages ago, so it’ll be a good excuse to finish it.
I’m thoroughly enjoying Shiny New Books, although I’m having to avoid making any lists of ones to buy from it this month – as I’ve bought enough books in July to last me till October.
I love seeing Penelope Fitzgerald on any recommended reading list, Offshore and The Bookshop are two of my favourite books.
