I was asked to pick one book of all the books I’ve read in 2013 as my favourite.
It was nearly impossible, but because I was asked by the lovely internet magazine, We Love This Book , I knew that I had to try. There were a few books books that I could have picked, but in the end I knew that it had to be ……
No, I’m not going to tell you!
Because, of course, I wasn’t the only one who was asked that question and there is a wonderful, diverse list of books that you really should see for yourself. There’s a novel that I might of picked, there’s a remakable work of non fiction that is now very high on my wishlist.
So please, do go and persuse the list, and take a look around a wonderful, bookish website while you’re there.
But before you just let me ask a couple of questions:
What book do you think I chose?
And which book would you choose …..?
The book you picked sounds very much like one I must read. I don’t know which I would choose – maybe “The Brothers Karamazov” or “Anna Karenina” or any of the Beverley Nichols books I’ve read this year – it’s so hard to decide!!
It is pretty much impossible to pick just one. In the end I went with the one that steered me to other books and hasn’t been shouted about as much as it might.

I couldn’t guess, because you read so many wonderful books! – but, in hindsight, of course that would be it. That book has to be on my TBR 12-book list – another reason for me to make one.
I struggled to choose, so it would be nigh impossible for anyone else to guess. This one came through in the end, because it hasn’t received as much attention as many of the others, because it speaks so well for bookishness, and because it has steered me towards more books.
I cheated and looked at the list. It does sound like a very good book, and some good suggestions from the other contributors as well.
It is a very interesting and diverse list, so I’m glad you had a look.
I saw you were there when the email dropped into my box this afternoon. Congratulations!
Thank you – I don’t think I’ve ever been in a newsletter before!
How thrilling to know that I had just managed to pick up a copy of the book of your choice at the recent books sale here! 🙂
