Chunkster Challenge 2009

I’ve been hoping this challenge would be running in 2009 and I am thrilled to find that it is! I have umpteen big books sitting in my TBR and there are more that I am eyeing up at the library and in bookshops.

Think Pink Dana is hosting the 2009 Chunkster Challenge!

The challenge starts now and ends November 15, 2009. Here are the options for participation:

*The Chubby Chunkster – this option is for the reader who has a large tome or two to read, but really doesn’t want to commit to more than that. 2 books is all you need to finish this challenge.

*Do These Books Make my Butt Look Big? – this option is for the slightly heavier reader who wants to commit to 3-5 Chunksters over the next ten months.

*Mor-book-ly Obese – This is for the truly out of control chunkster. For this level of challenge you must commit to 6 or more chunksters OR three tomes of 750 pages or more. You know you want to…..go on and give in to your cravings.

And lastly, in conjunction with the TBR Challenge

*Too Big To Ignore Anymore – this option is for those chunksters on your TBR list. You may select any number of books over 450 pages but you must LIST THEM to complete the challenge and they must be on your TBR list as well.

If you aren’t sure what qualifies as a chunkster, take a look here.

I may be mad, but I’m going for Mor-book-ly Obese – 6 books! – with a slight flavour of Too Big To Ignore Anymore.

When I set up my TBR challenge I made sure that all of my 12 alternates were chunksters – so if I switched I would have to do some serious reading – well it seemed logical at the time! These are all possibilities:

  • The Count of Monte Christo, by Alexandre Dumas
  • Dissolution, by C J Samson
  • The Last Witchfinder, by James Morrow
  • Blue Earth, by Jules Hardy
  • A Hollow Crown, by Helen Hollick
  • Ireland, by Frank Delaney
  • Special Topics in Calamity Physics, by Marisa Pessl
  • 20,000 Streets Under The Sea, by Patrick Hamilton
  • South Riding, by Winifred Holtby
  • Labyrinth, by Kate Mosse
  • The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon
  • Katherine, by Anya Seton

I have yet more chunksters lurking around the house and I may well acquire more over the course of the year.

So I don’t know exactly what books I’m reading, but I am definitely in for at least 6!
